Sam Richards aka @samricharts2 is a wonderful new talent. This 24 year old illustrator from south east London is making waves with his brilliantly comedic eye developed while studying illustration and animation at Coventry university. Sam followed this up with a masters degree in Illustration at Ravensbourne University.
In his own words…
“I work mostly through ProCreate on my iPad which has revolutionised my career as I was beginning to suffer in the modern world as an entirely traditional artist.
Generally I like to incorporate humour within my work, especially surrealism, where I can let my brain wander in search of something completely out of the box.
One thing that a lot of artists have, which I differ from slightly, is a signature aesthetic and style across everything they do. Whilst my character “Gary” follows me around the majority of my personal work, the colours, methods and linework that I use varies from piece to piece. Last year I was diagnosed with ADHD, which explains a lot as to why I can’t stick to the same style all the time - my mind hates repetition…for better or for worse.
I am absolutely honoured to be working with @spennylympics and @the_mnd_army. Whilst not through MND, I lost my mother through a very unexpectedly short battle with cancer. Any contribution I can make to assist others in dire need of help through fundraising and awareness, or even putting a smile on their face makes it all worthwhile.
After Spennylympics Herculean efforts during the Tokyo games I will be looking towards the Paris Olympic Games this summer to create some original pieces of artwork along an Olympic theme to raise funds and awareness for the Artists Against MND campaign.”
